What is sparkling coconut water?
Sparkling coconut water is coconut water that has been lightly carbonated, so it has a gentle fizz instead of the still, flat texture of regular coconut water. It keeps the natural electrolytes of coconut water and adds bubbles, which makes it drink more like a soft drink while staying closer to the fruit it comes from.
At its simplest it is two things: real coconut water and carbonation. Many brands, EVER included, also add real botanicals for flavour and leave out sugar and sweeteners entirely.
How is sparkling coconut water made?
It starts with coconut water, the clear liquid from inside young green coconuts. The coconut water is chilled and infused with carbon dioxide under pressure, the same process used for sparkling water, which dissolves into the liquid and creates the fizz. Flavour, when a brand uses it, comes from real fruit and botanical extracts added before canning. The can is then sealed to hold the carbonation in.
Sparkling coconut water vs coconut water.
The difference is carbonation. Still coconut water is flat and soft. Sparkling coconut water is the same base with bubbles, which gives it a crisper, more refreshing feel. Nutritionally the base is the same; the carbonation adds nothing but texture.
Sparkling coconut water vs sparkling water.
Plain sparkling water is water and carbon dioxide, and nothing else. Sparkling coconut water starts from coconut water, so it carries the natural electrolytes and the light tropical taste of the coconut, then adds the fizz on top. One is flavour from the fruit; the other is a blank slate.
Sparkling coconut water vs soda.
| Sparkling coconut water (EVER) | Typical soda | |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Real coconut water | Carbonated water and syrup |
| Sugar | Zero, no sweeteners | Usually high, or artificial sweeteners |
| Flavour source | Real fruit and botanicals | Flavourings, often artificial |
| Electrolytes | Natural, from coconut water | None |
The short version: soda is sweetened carbonated water; sparkling coconut water is a carbonated fruit water with the coconut kept in.
Does sparkling coconut water have sugar?
It depends on the brand. Coconut water contains a small amount of naturally occurring sugar. Some sparkling coconut waters add more; others, like EVER, add none at all and use no sweeteners, so the only sugar present is whatever occurs naturally in the coconut water itself. Always check the label.
Is sparkling coconut water good for you?
Sparkling coconut water is a low sugar, plant based alternative to sweetened fizzy drinks, and the carbonation itself is simply dissolved carbon dioxide with no nutritional effect. Whether a given can suits you depends on its recipe, so the useful things to read on the label are the sugar content, whether sweeteners are used, and where the flavour comes from. EVER is zero sugar, uses no sweeteners, and takes its flavour from real botanicals.
What does sparkling coconut water taste like?
Lightly tropical and crisp. You get the soft, slightly sweet note of coconut water, lifted by the bubbles so it finishes clean rather than heavy. Flavoured versions layer fruit and botanicals on top: EVER makes Yuzu & Lime, Raspberry & Elderflower, and Matcha & Ginger, each finishing dry rather than sweet.
The takeaway.
Sparkling coconut water is carbonated coconut water: the electrolytes and light taste of the coconut, with a gentle fizz. The good ones keep it simple, real coconut water and real flavour, with no added sugar and no sweeteners. Read more about what goes into every can of EVER.
